Books

The books are organised in subject order within the library. Most books directly relating to the skills of professional writing will be in the 800s section. However, when researching a topic you will probably be using books from many sections of both Tremough and Woodlane libraries. For further information on where to find books consult the library catalogue

Journals

The Library has access to a wide range of journals (these are often called periodicals or serials). They are published on a regular basis and tend to deal with specialist topic areas or recent events. You may find browsing the journals is a useful way to to get an overview of a subject or a current topic of interest.

Journals are included on the Library catalogue and you can find out how far back we have copies and where they are kept by looking them up under their title.

Databases

Online databases allow you to use keywords to search within a range of journals, and link you to a journal article.

Library Essentials

The library has a range of electronic resources which you will be able to access using your Falmouth IT User Name and password. Many of the journals are available to read online (check the list above for those most relevant to Professional Writing) and all the online databases can be used off-campus.

The library also subscribes to a number of electronic books, which can be accessed via the library catalogue (http://voyager.falmouth.ac.uk/) for reading online or downloading. To find electronic books simply type in the subject you are interested in and then limit to E-books (see option in drop-down list below search box).

You may be able to become a member of another UK university library under the Sconul Access scheme. You can now apply online, and will be sent an email confirming that you are entitled to use the Sconul Access scheme. Take this email along with your Falmouth ID card to the library you wish to join.

You can also get journal articles from the British Library emailed to you to download from your own computer, using the British Library's Secure Electronic Deliver service. For further information on how to use this service see our web page on Secure Electronic Delivery
